Wendigo

The wendigo is a legendary creature from the folklore of the Algonquian people from the northern parts of North America. A wendigo is created when a human indulges in cannibalism. They lack lips and toes, and constantly search for people to eat.

It is possible that the wendigo was created to stop the spread of diseases similar to mad cow or kuru, which are transmitted by eating infected meat.

I don't think this looks much like how the wendigo was originally described, but I was more influenced by more recent portrayals which seem to be more influenced by cryptids such as Bigfoot.
